Glossary A - D | E - H | I - L | M - P | Q - T | U - Z |   A | B | C | D Academic withdrawal date: the date set by your provider as the final day that you can withdraw from a unit without incurring an academic penalty (i.e. recorded fail grade). See: Withdrawing, failing, non-completion Additional Student Learning Entitlement (SLE): an extra entitlement to ensure you have enough SLE to complete at least one course of study as a Commonwealth supported student. Any additional SLE you are granted for a course of study can only be used for that particular course. See: Types of SLE Top   Bonus for voluntary repayments: voluntary repayments can be made towards your HELP debt directly to the Tax Office . You will receive a bonus of 10% for voluntary repayments of $500 or more. See: Bridging study for overseas trained professionals Top Census date: the date on which your enrolment is taken to be finalised. HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP debts are incurred and SLE is consumed on census dates. You must make your up-front payments and submit your request/s for Commonwealth assistance by the census date in order to be eligible for Commonwealth assistance. Your provider may set an earlier date for the submission of forms or up-front payments - check with your provider. See: Important dates - census dates Commonwealth assisted student: a student who is a Commonwealth supported student or who is in receipt of a HELP loan or a Commonwealth Scholarship. See: What is a Commonwealth supported place? Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN): your notice containing information about enrolment and use of Commonwealth assistance. Higher education providers must issue a CAN to each of their Commonwealth assisted students after the census date. See: Your Commonwealth Assistance Notice Commonwealth contributions: contributions that the Commonwealth makes towards the cost of your education if you are a Commonwealth supported student. The Commonwealth pays this amount directly to your higher education provider. See: What you pay. Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN): your unique identifier, allocated to all students accessing Commonwealth assistance for higher education. See: About your CHESSN. Commonwealth supported place: a higher education place for which the Commonwealth makes a contribution towards the cost of your education. See: What is a Commonwealth supported place? Commonwealth supported student: a student who occupies a Commonwealth supported place. See: What is a Commonwealth supported place? Compulsory repayments: repayments that people with a Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP) debt are required to make once their income exceeds the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment. See: Compulsory & voluntary Course of study: a course of study leading to a higher education award or an enabling course. A combined or double degree is one course of study. See: Year 12 - transition to higher education Cross-institutional programme: a programme of study comprising a unit or a set of units of study being undertaken with one provider (the host provider) as part of a course of study for which the student is enrolled with another provider (the home provider). There are a number of other criteria that must be met for a programme to be considered cross-institutional.
